Who Level 6 can suit

CSCS lists a range of management occupations for which a relevant Level 6 construction management or technical NVQ can support a Black Manager card application, including a number of site-management, surveying, planning and contracting roles. Candidates must already be working in a relevant management or technical occupation and comply with the eligibility requirements set by the selected qualification.

How assessment works

This is an NVQ assessment route rather than a fixed-duration classroom course. Candidates demonstrate occupational competence using evidence from their work, supported by an assessor. Exact duration varies with experience, evidence availability, qualification choice and assessment progress.

Before you enrol

Your occupation and proposed Level 6 qualification should be checked against the current CSCS requirements. Applicants for the Black Manager card must also pass the CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environment test within the required period. The test is booked directly with CITB.

Price and delivery

Current advertised price: £1,490 (£1,788 including VAT). Assessment support is remote online. The awarding body, qualification title, units, registration arrangements and provider terms are confirmed before enrolment.

SMSTS is relevant site-management safety training, but CSCS states that SMSTS itself is not accepted as the occupational qualification for a CSCS card. It may still be useful alongside the NVQ for people with site-management responsibilities.

CSCS card eligibility depends on the applicant’s occupation, qualification and current card-scheme rules. Check the official CSCS requirements.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Who can a Level 6 NVQ suit?

A relevant Level 6 construction management or technical NVQ can support eligible management and technical occupations. The exact qualification must match the candidate’s occupation.

How is the Level 6 NVQ assessed?

It is competency-based rather than a fixed classroom course. Candidates provide workplace evidence and complete assessor-supported assessment activities.

Do I need workplace evidence?

Yes. Candidates need sufficient suitable evidence from their work to demonstrate the required occupational competence.

Is Level 6 assessment remote?

Yes. SiteCourses currently offers remote online assessment support. The exact qualification, units and registration arrangements are confirmed before enrolment.

How long does Level 6 take?

There is no single fixed duration. Completion time depends on experience, the selected qualification, evidence availability and assessment progress.

What else is needed for a CSCS Black Manager Card?

The qualification must match the applicant’s occupation and current CSCS rules. The appropriate CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environment test may also be required.

How much is the Level 6 route?

The current advertised price is £1,490 £1,788 incl. VAT.

Construction NVQs

Assessment, evidence and CSCS cards

These workplace qualifications are for candidates already working in the relevant role. Your assessor checks evidence against the selected qualification and supports you through an online portfolio.

What is a construction NVQ?

A construction NVQ is a nationally recognised, workplace-based qualification that assesses competence against occupational standards. It is a lifetime qualification; the related CSCS card has separate validity and renewal rules.

Do I need to renew my NVQ?

No. The NVQ qualification does not expire. A CSCS card does expire and has its own renewal requirements.

Who is this programme suitable for?

Candidates should already work in the relevant construction role and have access to evidence of their actual duties. We confirm the qualification and occupational fit before enrolment.

How does assessment work?

An assessor supports you one to one, usually through online meetings, reviews your portfolio and gathers evidence against the required units. Workplace observation or other assessment methods may also be needed. There is no single end-of-programme NVQ exam.

What evidence can I use?

Your online portfolio can be accessed at any time. Evidence may include workplace observations, questions and professional discussions, previous learning, relevant work documents such as risk assessments and method statements, witness testimony and other evidence accepted by the assessor. Your assessor confirms what is suitable.
