Who is SMSTS for?
Site managers, aspiring site managers and others with responsibility for managing, monitoring, implementing and reporting in a construction environment.
Entry requirements
CITB states there are no formal entry requirements, but delegates should hold or be about to hold a site-manager role. Previous health and safety knowledge is recommended and suitable written and spoken English is required.
Course duration and online delivery
The current listing is delivered remotely online. Under the current CITB Site Safety Plus scheme rules, SMSTS requires 5 days / 37.5 hours of attendance. Remote courses are subject to the scheme’s participation and quality-assurance requirements.
Remote course equipment requirements
Learners are required to have access to:
- a suitable computer, laptop or other approved device;
- a reliable internet connection;
- a working camera and microphone;
- suitable identification;
- any required software or video conferencing platform; and
- a quiet and appropriate environment in which to participate.
Phones, mobile devices and tablets are not permitted for use on these courses.
Assessment
Full attendance, four core exercises, a trainer review and the end-of-course examination are required. The current CITB scheme rules set the examination pass mark at 81% (26/32).
Certificate
Successful delegates receive a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, normally valid for five years. A valid certificate can be renewed with SMSTS Refresher before expiry.
