Unlike a fixed classroom course, an NVQ is competency-based. The candidate demonstrates that they can meet the requirements of the selected qualification through evidence from their work and assessor-led assessment activity.
What might workplace evidence include?
The exact evidence is determined by the qualification, its units and the assessor. Depending on the role, evidence can include work records, plans, reports, site documentation, photographs of work activity, meeting or briefing records, witness evidence and professional discussions with the assessor.
You should not collect documents simply because they look useful. The assessor will explain what is relevant and how the evidence maps to the qualification requirements.
Why your actual job role matters
The NVQ must match the occupation and level of responsibility being assessed. That is especially important where the qualification is intended to support a CSCS supervisory or manager card application.
Can assessment be completed remotely?
The qualification support and assessment routes advertised through SiteCourses are remote online. Candidates still need suitable access to workplace evidence and must be able to demonstrate occupational competence.
What should you do before enrolment?
Tell us your current occupation and responsibilities. We can then make sure the proposed qualification route is checked before enrolment rather than assuming that a particular level is correct.

How to prepare an evidence example
Start with a task you personally carry out. Record what the task was, your responsibility, what you did, when it happened and the result. A document is more useful when your assessor can understand your own contribution, rather than just see a company template.
- Briefing or supervision: a briefing record, your explanation of how you checked understanding and, where appropriate, a witness account.
- Planning work: a relevant programme or work plan, with an explanation of your decisions and how you monitored progress.
- Managing safety or quality: relevant inspection records, risk-control documentation or quality checks that demonstrate your own actions.
These are preparation examples, not a guaranteed evidence list. Your assessor decides which evidence meets your selected units and may need observation or professional discussion as well.
Protect workplace information
Check your employer's permission before sharing work documents. Ask your assessor how to handle confidential client, commercial or personal information. Do not upload a colleague's personal records simply to demonstrate that a process exists.
Use your candidate profile to identify gaps
The SiteCourses NVQ candidate profile asks whether you perform the unit tasks and can provide evidence. Answer honestly: a gap should be discussed during screening rather than filled with documents unrelated to your work. Read the NVQ assessment FAQs for information about assessor support and completion times.
