Your construction NVQ and your CSCS card are connected, but they are different things. Understanding the distinction helps you plan renewals without assuming that your qualification has expired.
Does a construction NVQ expire?
A construction NVQ completed through SiteCourses is a lifetime qualification. You do not need to renew the NVQ simply because your CSCS card reaches its expiry date.
The qualification demonstrates that you were successfully assessed against its required competencies. Keep your certificate and qualification details somewhere secure so they are available when needed.
Why does the card have an expiry date?
CSCS cards have their own validity and renewal requirements. Holding an NVQ does not make your card valid indefinitely, and renewing a card is a separate process from completing the qualification.
Check the expiry shown on your card and consult the official CSCS renewal guidance before making an application. Requirements and application windows should be checked directly rather than assumed from an old certificate or previous renewal.
Which qualification supports which route?
SiteCourses offers a Level 3 construction site supervision NVQ route associated with the Gold Supervisor Card, and Level 6 and Level 7 management routes associated with the Black Manager Card.
The qualification must match your occupation and the relevant card requirements. Use the official CSCS qualification guidance when checking an application. Completing an NVQ does not automatically issue a card.
What else should you check?
Confirm the appropriate CITB Health, Safety and Environment test and the current application requirements for your card type. Test booking and card application are separate from the NVQ assessment. Ask for a written breakdown of any charges before booking services.
If you have moved into a different occupation or level of responsibility, check whether the existing qualification and card still match the role. A lifetime qualification does not mean every future job is covered by the same assessment.
