Does SMSTS have to run Monday to Friday?

CITB sets the course-duration and attendance requirements, while the precise timetable is arranged by the approved training provider within the scheme rules. SiteCourses currently lists its remote SMSTS availability as Monday to Friday, giving delegates a consecutive five-day option.

Can the five days be completed online?

Yes. CITB states that SMSTS may be taken in a classroom or by remote delivery. A remote course still requires full participation and assessment; it is not simply five days of recordings that can be watched whenever you choose.

What is covered during the five days?

CITB's published course information includes management of health, safety and environmental responsibilities, current legal requirements, industry guidance and good practice. The course is intended to develop managers' understanding of their responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety, welfare and environmental matters.

How long is SMSTS Refresher?

SMSTS Refresher is shorter: the current scheme rules specify two days and 15 hours. It is only for delegates who meet the refresher eligibility requirements, including holding a valid SMSTS certificate.

How long is the SMSTS certificate valid?

Successful SMSTS certification is valid for five years. If you want to use the refresher route, it is important to complete the refresher while your certificate is still in date.
