SMSTS can be completed remotely online when it is delivered in accordance with CITB Site Safety Plus requirements. Remote delivery changes where you attend the course; it does not turn SMSTS into a short, self-paced e-learning certificate.
How long is online SMSTS?
The current CITB scheme requires the full SMSTS course to run for five days and at least 37.5 hours, excluding breaks. SiteCourses currently lists remote SMSTS courses running Monday to Friday.

What do you need for remote delivery?
You should expect to participate live for the full course and to meet the provider's identity, attendance and assessment requirements. Because remote courses still involve trainer interaction and assessment, you should have a reliable internet connection, a suitable device and a quiet place where you can participate throughout the day. Your training provider will confirm its specific joining instructions before the course.
Is the certificate different?
CITB describes SMSTS as available through classroom or remote delivery. The course route is still the CITB Site Safety Plus SMSTS rather than a separate “online-only” qualification. Successful certification is valid for five years.
Who is SMSTS intended for?
CITB describes SMSTS as suitable for people who have, or are about to acquire, responsibilities for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff, such as site managers. There are no formal entry requirements, but previous health-and-safety knowledge is recommended.
How much is online SMSTS through SiteCourses?
The current SiteCourses advertised price is £399 £478.80 incl. VAT for remote online SMSTS. Dates and places remain subject to provider confirmation.

Does online SMSTS help with a CSCS Black Card?
SMSTS is valuable management safety training, but CSCS states that SMSTS itself is not accepted as the occupational qualification for the Black Manager card. A relevant Construction Management/Technical NVQ/SVQ or other accepted qualification and the appropriate HS&E test are required for that card.
