Your assessor helps you understand the qualification requirements and assesses whether your work demonstrates the required competence. Their role combines guidance with careful assessment against the qualification's units.
One-to-one support
SiteCourses NVQ programmes use one-to-one assessor contact, usually through online meetings. Your assessor explains the units, discusses your responsibilities and helps you understand what relevant evidence looks like.
This approach allows candidates already working in a suitable role to build a portfolio alongside their job. It is different from following a fixed classroom timetable, but still requires regular participation and time for assessment.
Turning work into a clear portfolio
An assessor considers your personal contribution, not just the existence of company documents. They may ask you to explain what you did, why you chose a particular approach and how you checked the result.
Feedback can identify missing information or areas needing further evidence. Responding to that feedback is part of progressing through the qualification. Uploading a large number of files does not automatically mean a unit is complete.
More than reviewing documents
Assessment may involve professional discussions, questions and answers, observation, witness evidence and recognition of relevant prior learning. The methods depend on the qualification requirements and your circumstances.
Your assessor decides whether evidence is relevant and sufficient. Previous qualifications or experience can be discussed, but they do not automatically remove every assessment requirement.
Agree how you will work together
At the start, discuss meeting arrangements, portfolio milestones and how to ask questions. Evening or weekend contact may be possible by arrangement, within reason. The portfolio's 24-hour access should not be confused with round-the-clock assessor availability.
Tell your assessor promptly about a change of employer, role, project or access to evidence. These changes can affect the assessment plan and completion time.
Support and assessment standards
Good guidance helps you show your competence clearly. It does not replace the need to meet the qualification standards or guarantee a pass without sufficient evidence.
